Entitlement
Posted by: | Comments**** WARNING – this post has Political Undertones *****
That being said, this has been on my mind for quite a while, and is not just about my Political Affiliation and how it relates to that, but about everything that I do and see, and the downfall of this great society!
Entitlement: The fact of having a right to something.
Every day I see it and I hear about it, and unfortunately, have even lived it. I think about it constantly because everyone has this bit of entitlement in some aspect of their life whether it is me thinking that I am entitled to business because we are a “great company” vs. me working hard at earning their business… or that jackass in the left lane that is going just below the speed limit. Left lane is for passing only, just because you are driving doesn’t mean that you HAVE to be in the left lane! Or when it comes to Big Government spending, people feel that they are entitled to benefits or an education or healthcare or free money/food, whatever it might be (yes, I warned you this had a political undertone to it…) Work hard, be a good person, and make the right decisions in your life that give you the opportunity to be successful.
Now how this relates to my training and Triathlon which is what this blog is about… I have been feeling entitled to do good, to run in races and to perform, but without putting the Hard Work in that will make me successful! Instead of getting on the bike, I watch TV, or instead of running, I sleep in… (this was different because technically I can’t run right now). I need to empower myself and do the right things, make the right decisions and get motivated to be successful in Triathlon! I need to not feel entitled to the coolest clothes/gear/bikes, and focus on me. Get my ass in gear, put in my due time!
Buffalo Springs 70.3 was 3 years ago (almost), I am no longer a Half Ironman Triathlete, I don’t even know if I can consider myself a Triathlete right now because I haven’t done one in 2 years (or so). I am merely “in training”. Even with that though, I am not putting in my time, I am not mentally there.
Entitlement, I see it everywhere… People, make your decisions count, work hard at whatever it is, and just DO SOMETHING!!!!
Team FatTriGuy
Posted by: | CommentsI am happy to announce my commitment to the I-Thonka-Chi (Parkland Foundation) Burn Camp for children!
This is a charity that I have been supporting for many years now, and want to pick it up a little to see if I can get more for them!
One week a year, burned children go to a camp at St. Marks here just south of Dallas, TX. I have had the opportunity to go to this camp and work with many of the individuals that give up their time to Volunteer for this week! Everything that is done is done on a volunteer process, even the children don’t pay a dime and are flown in from all over the country to go to this camp. One of the campers told me that this was the one week a year that they felt like a normal kid! There is so much excitement during the week, and the kids have a great time, and the Volunteers have a great time. Throughout the year, people donate money to the charity through their website, and they also sponsor a golf tournament every year (good times, btw!)
Well, starting today, I am forming Team FatTriGuy for the benefit of I-Thonka-Chi Burn Camp!
I am looking for individuals that will raise awareness about the charity and race for this charity! I am putting together some money to have some technical shirts, and some Tri Kits and others together for the team. All I ask is that you wear the jerseys during the races and that you make a commitment to the charity to raise funds for them!
Please go to the Contact Me page for more information and let’s Tri for a good cause!
Good Choices Today
Posted by: | CommentsSo I made some good choices today even though I really thought long and hard about if I was really going to make those choices!
I wanted a burger, I wanted something bad for me, I wanted fried chicken… something tasty!
I took the stairs today, and went to Jason’s Deli and got the Mediterranean Wrap and a cup of Tomato Basil Soup. Filling, good and nutritious! Awesome!
Unfortunately my alarm didn’t go off this AM, so I will get my workout in this evening!
Let’s do this!!!
Snowmaggedon 2011
Posted by: | CommentsI love the cold weather, I love snow, I dislike ice though!
Fitness:
The ice has kept me home Tuesday and Wednesday, and although I have been able to get in some workouts, I have been dreading the Dreadmill! Last week I was good at getting up in the morning and getting a run in outside. It felt really good, I was able to get up and get going! Not this week though. I got in a bike ride (on the trainer) on Wednesday, and a small brick in on Thursday… but they were low intensity at best, I just wasn’t feeling it.
Nutrition:
The cold has brought back some bad ways of mine. Frito Pie for breakfast yesterday, chili and nacho’s for lunch. I didn’t eat a LOT, really, but those really are just bad calories. I had a 1/2 pound burger today for lunch and fries… I just could have had the chicken sandwich, but I didn’t. The best thing about working out a bunch is that you do get to have a lot more bad calories, but for weight loss, to effectively continue that routine, I need to cut down on the bad ones as much as I can!
Resolve:
A bad day is a bad day, a bad week is a bad week, but limit it to that, 3 days of bad is where the buck stops. Get back into it, start kicking ass again!!
Bad Choices
Posted by: | CommentsI made a bad choice today… now, don’t get me wrong, I could have made a good choice, but I didn’t…
First of all, I ended up running 4 miles this morning, and it felt good, it was cold, but if felt good! Then, I did this at lunch:
Yes, I know this was a horrible idea, but it sounded so delicious and tasty at the time. Yes, I finished it, and yes, I ate it faster than most of the others finished their 2 patty burgers. The thing with it is that it was Grass Fed, Free Range Meat, but that doesn’t help too much.
Oh, and the fries were good too!
