Been a While

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Yes, I am lazy…  that is the point of this darn website!  I am “wanting” to change that!

First, the bad news, that heel issue that has been bugging me for a while, which has been one of the main reasons of my decline in activity (working out)… well, it was/is a heel stress fracture.  This caused me to miss the Big D Half Marathon, the Rock’n'Roll Half Marathon, and my first Tri of the season (CAPTEXTRI). Disappointed, yes, of course I am, but not so much that it has got me down!  I just needed rest and some relaxation, which is always nice!

Now the first excuse, work, it has been busy (always good), but keeping me from also working out.

Good News, in terms of weight loss and diet; I have stayed very constant over the past few weeks with minimal working out and some REALLY bad diet decisions!  So that is good for when I do get back into hard working out and running!  Texas Longhorn 70.3 here I come!

More excuses: moving, selling house, did I say work, golf, birthday parties, kids, etc… la la la la la!

I’ll see you all really soon, thanks so much for the awesome inspiration everyone, and keep on keeping on!

Entitlement

Posted by: | Comments (0)

****  WARNING – this post has Political Undertones *****

That being said, this has been on my mind for quite a while, and is not just about my Political Affiliation and how it relates to that, but about everything that I do and see, and the downfall of this great society!

Entitlement: The fact of having a right to something.

Every day I see it and I hear about it, and unfortunately, have even lived it.  I think about it constantly because everyone has this bit of entitlement in some aspect of their life whether it is me thinking that I am entitled to business because we are a “great company” vs. me working hard at earning their business… or that jackass in the left lane that is going just below the speed limit.  Left lane is for passing only, just because you are driving doesn’t mean that you HAVE to be in the left lane!  Or when it comes to Big Government spending, people feel that they are entitled to benefits or an education or healthcare or free money/food, whatever it might be (yes, I warned you this had a political undertone to it…)  Work hard, be a good person, and make the right decisions in your life that give you the opportunity to be successful.

Now how this relates to my training and Triathlon which is what this blog is about…  I have been feeling entitled to do good, to run in races and to perform, but without putting the Hard Work in that will make me successful!  Instead of getting on the bike, I watch TV, or instead of running, I sleep in…  (this was different because technically I can’t run right now).  I need to empower myself and do the right things, make the right decisions and get motivated to be successful in Triathlon!  I need to not feel entitled to the coolest clothes/gear/bikes, and focus on me.  Get my ass in gear, put in my due time!

Buffalo Springs 70.3 was 3 years ago (almost), I am no longer a Half Ironman Triathlete, I don’t even know if I can consider myself a Triathlete right now because I haven’t done one in 2 years (or so).  I am merely “in training”.  Even with that though, I am not  putting in my time, I am not mentally there.

Entitlement, I see it everywhere… People, make your decisions count, work hard at whatever it is, and just DO SOMETHING!!!!

Team FatTriGuy

Posted by: | Comments (0)

I am happy to announce my commitment to the I-Thonka-Chi (Parkland Foundation) Burn Camp for children!

This is a charity that I have been supporting for many years now, and want to pick it up a little to see if I can get more for them!

One week a year, burned children go to a camp at St. Marks here just south of Dallas, TX.  I have had the opportunity to go to this camp and work with many of the individuals that give up their time to Volunteer for this week!  Everything that is done is done on a volunteer process, even the children don’t pay a dime and are flown in from all over the country to go to this camp.  One of the campers told me that this was the one week a year that they felt like a normal kid!  There is so much excitement during the week, and the kids have a great time, and the Volunteers have a great time.  Throughout the year, people donate money to the charity through their website, and they also sponsor a golf tournament every year (good times, btw!)

Well, starting today, I am forming Team FatTriGuy for the benefit of I-Thonka-Chi Burn Camp!

I am looking for individuals that will raise awareness about the charity and race for this charity!  I am putting together some money to have some technical shirts, and some Tri Kits and others together for the team.  All I ask is that you wear the jerseys during the races and that you make a commitment to the charity to raise funds for them!

Please go to the Contact Me page for more information and let’s Tri for a good cause!

Long Run and 5 Patty Cheeseburger

Posted by: | Comments (1)

As you all know, I had that Five Patty Cheeseburger on Friday… it was Delicious!  But… I did feel guilty for some of the weekend, but I am allowed a slip up every once and a while…  but not like that.

Anyway, Saturday and Sunday went pretty well, stayed inside the diet bubble, and ended up walking 18 holes of golf on Saturday (GORGEOUS!).  Then on Sunday, I was about to not run, I almost put it off, I really wanted to take a nap, I was so tired… blah blah blah.

I got my fat butt off of the bed, and ran on the treadmill!  It was really nice that the football game was on the tv, as I got to go brain numb and watch football and listen to some good tunes.  Speaking of tunes, I need to change up my playlist again, but that will be another post, another story.  It was a good run, I went 5 miles which was on the schedule, and I was able to go the first 3.5 without putting it on a 3mph setting, and walking to get my heart rate down a bit.  My heart rate has actually been really good recently while working out, for the first 2 miles or so I wasn’t even up to 150 bpm.  I was in the 147 range for that time, and running at about a 11:19/11:32 pace (I forgot to be honest which one I was on).  I was wearing my Zoot Compression socks, and I really liked them, in fact, I actually bought 2 more pairs of compression socks online…  Thank you All3Sports.com!

I have been excited that I have been able to get these workouts in, but I want more, and I want more time to be able to do it!  The treadmill is finally starting to wear on me and even though it is convenient, so is stepping outside.  What is my issue, is it the cold or the slight hills, or the dark, or what??  I need to get up in the morning and run, I need to run outside, I need to be more motivated!!

FatTriGuy, get your ass in gear, do it, get it done!!!!!!!!

Goals for this week:

  • 3 morning workouts
  • 2 additional workouts
  • at least one swim and one bike (those are the two)

I didn’t get in the pool last week, but I KNOW that I need to get up in the morning if I want to achieve the goals that I am setting for myself.

DO IT!!!!!!!!!

Motivation anyone?  :-)

A Year in Data

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Good day everyone!

I hope that at least one person is reading this, but hopefully by the end of the year, I might have a few constant followers!

Triathlon, running, diet, fitness, nutrition, buzzword, buzzword!  I am a normal guy, but what I want to change is to become extraordinary!  As you can see from my About Me section, I am doing this not just for me, but for my family/friends and for all of those who think that they “can’t do it”.  It’s funny, my son started saying “I can’t” when trying to do something, and I felt bad because that is something that he obviously picked up from me.

What I intend to do is to coordinate with my DailyMile Account and Twitter to work on diet, fitness and training. By the end of the year, you will have seen some dramatic changes in my whole life, starting with #HealthyChoices .  It is the little things, choosing the stairs vs. the elevator, the grilled chicken vs. the burger, the walk the golf course vs. ride.  Etc.

I don’t currently do much running, but that will change a lot.

I don’t bike much anymore, that will change…

I don’t hit up the pool anymore, but that will change…

I am currently on Weight Watchers to help me with my nutrition, that won’t change… (well, it will when I get down to my goals maybe)

I also will be focusing on my music playlist and the gear that I use to help me motivate myself and to keep things interesting!  Check out those pages too!
